Context
Despite the generalization of the web in our daily life, many companies still use classic tools for processing procedures: Excel tables, paper forms, e-mails, and even obsolete fax machines. In addition, the complexity increases as the validation levels increase, thus causing additional costs and delays.
We explain, in this context, how web applications have not only reduced the costs and processing delays of classic mode but we also expose the tools at our disposal so that the digital transformation takes place in a fluid and intuitive way.
Approach the project properly
The mistake that a quite number of web agencies make is to launch development on the basis of business forms sent by the Client. We quickly find ourselves in workflows that are even more complex than the existing processes, which increases the risk of project failure event with an application of quality.
From our humble experience, the right approach would be to immerse oneself in the existing procedures by identifying the different actors, the information resources, the processing times and the management rules.
This activity will be reported by the functional specifications document which exhaustively translates into ordinary language all aspects related to Customer needs through textual descriptions reinforced by graphic representations.
To the question "Which technical solutions can meet the needs in an optimized way", the answer is found in the technical specifications document which covers the functional needs but in specialized terms.
In this context, we can mention the “data schema” which will host the collected information, the “user interfaces” for entering data and the “Views” for the presentation of this same data. The "activities and actions diagram" faithfully retraces the various involved transactions.
Then enter the scene, the project managers on the Client side and on the Development side who transform the specifications into a set of action items constituting the Project Planning.
It is only at this precise moment that the implementation stage can be initiated while regularly monitoring progress through periodic meetings followed by minutes of meetings.
The application delivery is accompanied by the "Acceptance Test Book" which includes all the usage scenarios in order to validate the final acceptance of the application.

Technical mastery is certainly an essential prerequisite for a successful web application, but good knowledge of the project phases and in particular their documentary deliverables are the guarantee of a project that respects its commitment of costs, deadlines and quality, in short, a successful project.
